5 Reasons the Methodist Home is the Place to be during a Pandemic

During the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been a challenge to know exactly where we are safe. Though staying home is recommended if possible, you or a loved one may have a medical need that finds you in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. If that happens, we want you to know that we are here for you!

Here at the Methodist Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation, we have been meticulous about cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces and items in our facility, as well as following safety and social distancing protocols for staff and residents. We initiated a variety of stringent protocols ahead of state requirements, which enabled us to be one of the first facilities to reopen to visitors in July.

We have been carefully following recommendations from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) since the pandemic began, and we feel confident in our ability to provide exceptional care to our residents even as we navigate the complexities of the pandemic.

When we aren’t able to accept limited and scheduled visits, we are offering all patients opportunities for video calls with their loved ones. We are also offering regular activities and other things to help boost patient morale during the pandemic.

Keep reading to see the top five reasons why we are comfortable saying that if you need the help of a skilled nursing facility during the pandemic, the Methodist Home is the place to be!

1. All of Our Rooms are Private with Private Bathrooms

We have three floors of resident rooms here at the Methodist Home for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Riverdale. We are proud to offer private rooms with private bathrooms for the comfort and safety of all our short-term patients and long-term residents.

Though residents have plenty of opportunities to safely socialize with each other during activities and meals, everyone enjoys retreating to the serenity of their own room.

2. Our Historic Facility was Recently Fully Renovated

In 2019 and 2020, our facility underwent an $8.3 million renovation project that included full updates to resident rooms, giving them a fresh and modern look while making them feel more like home than a hospital room.

The renovation also included updates to the in-house rehabilitation center that focuses on helping short-term patients regain strength so they can return home after surgery, illness, injury, or stroke.

A final piece of the project included the construction of the new in-house dialysis center that will be opening soon in partnership with The Rogosin Institute.

3. We Are a 5-Star Rated Facility.

We are a 5-star rated facility in the state of New York by Medicare.gov. This system ranks skilled nursing facilities throughout the United States on a scale of 1 to 5, using data from health inspections, staffing ratios, and quality measures related to residents’ physical and clinical needs.

We are proud of our dedicated team for ensuring such a high level of care is provided to our residents who live in our facility.

4. We Have Longevity and Legacy in the New York City Area

Our facility was built at 4499 Manhattan College Parkway in 1929 and is a cornerstone of the Riverdale community in the Bronx. We have been the “home away from home” for many residents throughout the years, and we look forward to continuing our mission into the future.

We also have several staff members who have been working in our facility for many years. The longevity of our staff has created stability and consistency to the level of care we provide and reinforces the team atmosphere found throughout The Methodist Home.

5. We Have a Tele-Health Partnership with Northwell Health.

We formed a partnership with the Northwell Health TeleSNF Program in September that has allowed us to provide an important service to our patients. During the pandemic when the safety of leaving our facility to go to outside appointments has been questionable, we were able to provide our residents in need with telehealth consultations.

With this program, they have been able to communicate with a network of providers without having to leave the comfort and safety of our facility. This mobile technology has been a great way for us to provide person-centered care to our patients in their time of need.
