Volunteer Opportunities at the Methodist Home

Volunteer filing paperwork in rehab center at non-profit organization

We specialize in helping short term patients recover from illness, injury, or surgery, and as a non-profit organization we have a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Methodist Home. Joining our mission can be a rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of others.

Volunteer Responsibilities

One of the primary responsibilities of volunteers is to assist with transporting short term rehab patients to and from their rooms to the therapy room. Volunteers also help clean therapy equipment after use, ensuring it is ready for the next patient.

Another vital role of volunteers includes individual interaction with patients. These visits may involve sharing stories, playing games, reading books, or simply providing companionship. Volunteers can brighten the patient’s day by offering a much-needed break from therapy and treatment.

Alternatively, some volunteers help with administrative duties for support staff, and others enjoy helping us host special events throughout the year.

Benefits of Volunteering at the Methodist Home

Volunteers provide comfort, companionship, and support to short term rehab patients during a stressful and challenging time. The main benefit you will receive by volunteering is the positive impact you will make on patients, their families, our skilled nursing facility, and the Riverdale and Bronx communities.

Volunteering also offers skill development, including healthcare knowledge, interpersonal relationships, and leadership skills. Networking opportunities are another benefit, as volunteers meet people from diverse backgrounds and professions, including healthcare professionals, patients, and families.

How to Volunteer at the Methodist Home

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. High school and college students may volunteer to gain experience in the healthcare field, fulfill community service requirements, or simply give back to their community. Professionals and retirees may volunteer to stay active, engage in meaningful work, or share their skills and experience with others.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer at the Methodist Home must complete an application process and a background check. Once the application has been approved, volunteers undergo training and orientation about patient safety, infection control, HIPAA regulations, and other topics relevant to the role.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and have medical clearance from their physician prior to working with us. This ensures the safety of the patients and staff and helps to minimize the risk of spreading infectious diseases.
