Entering a short-term rehab program can feel overwhelming, but knowing what to expect can ease anxiety and help you prepare for your stay.

At the Methodist Home, we specialize in providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals recovering from surgery, illness, or injury. Our goal is to help each of our patients regain strength to return safely home, and we are here to help you every step of the way.

Preparing For Your Short Term Stay

We recommend packing comfortable clothing and any personal items you may need during your stay. Though all short term rehab patient needs are different, you will likely receive therapy services while you are here, and comfort always works the best during these sessions.

Before your hospital care team discharges you to our facility, you should ask your doctor any questions you may have about your medical care or medications. It’s a great idea to have a trusted friend or family member with you during these conversations, or a voice recorder or pen and paper. It can be an overwhelming time, and this can help you revisit the information later.

Length of a Short Term Rehab Stay

The length of your short-term rehab stay will vary depending on your individual needs and treatment plan. Most patients stay with us anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on factors such as the severity of their condition and their progress in therapy.

Our goal is to help you regain strength and independence so you can safely return home, and our care coordination team works closely together to identify when it is the appropriate time for your discharge.

Arriving at the Skilled Nursing Facility

Upon arrival at our skilled nursing facility, you will be greeted by our friendly staff who will assist you with the check-in process. We will help you get settled in your room and introduce you to the nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals who will be involved in your treatment.

We will explain your therapy schedule to you and answer any questions you have about the process.

During the Short Term Rehab Stay

Upon admission to the Methodist Home, our interdisciplinary care team will review your needs and create a customized care plan for your short term rehabilitation stay.

This may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing services, and other specialized services tailored to your condition. Our team will monitor your progress and adjust your care plan as needed to ensure optimal results.

Monitoring and Support

Throughout your short-term rehab stay, our staff will monitor your progress closely and provide support and encouragement every step of the way. We will keep you informed about your treatment plan and involve you in decision-making regarding your care.

After the Short Term Rehab Stay

As your short-term rehab stay comes to an end, our care coordination team will work with you to get a plan in place to maintain the progress you made during your stay with us to ensure a smooth transition home.

We will provide you with instructions for at-home exercises, dietary guidelines, medications, and follow-up appointments to help you continue your recovery journey.
